Routes to go mountain biking in the province of Murcia

The Region of Murcia has a mild climate throughout the year for practicing mountain biking, as well as coastal and mountain areas in the interior to program different routes in just a few days and separated by very few kilometers. It is worth visiting both the provincial capital and the coastal area of Cartagena, the Sierra Espuña massif or Caravaca de la Cruz and its mountains. It is advisable to do the routes that we propose in autumn or spring, when the landscapes will become more attractive and the climate will be more benign.

Path of 1000 Curves Route

This is the name of the famous path that goes up to Sierra Espuña, in Alhama de Murcia. A massif located in the center of the autonomous community, famous for its lush pine and oak forests that emerged after the reforestation undertaken by the famous forestry engineer Ricardo Codorniú in the 19th century. Most of the route is fun singletracks, both up and down through the pine forests and oak forests of this area protected by the Region of Murcia. At the end of the route the biker will also be able to see the Espuña pipe, an old canal that is still active and that carries water from the mountains to the nearby orchards.

Cartagena - La Muela

Demanding tour around the surroundings of Cartagena, in which you climb La Muela to enjoy beautiful views of the coast and the surroundings of the Murcian city. The route includes a technical section on the descent to Escarihuelas. The route combines forest tracks in good condition, asphalt and trails.

Route of the Monumental Holm Oaks

In the northwest of the Region of Murcia, 75 kilometers from the capital, is located Caravaca de la Cruz, a town famous for the holy place of the Basilica of Vera Cruz which, according to tradition, keeps a relic of the cross in the one where Jesus Christ was crucified. In addition to its tourist-religious attraction, Caravaca has a unique environment for the practice of mountain biking. It is surrounded by mountains and mountain ranges with numerous tracks and paths. On this route we discover the closest surroundings of the municipality, which by extension (858 square km) is one of the 20 largest in all of Spain, and we visit the Fuentes del Marqués. It is a natural area located on the outskirts of the city with crystal-clear springs and paths for hiking or cycling.
