Routes to go out on a mountain bike in the province of Córdoba
Córdoba is a province with a great love for cycling. A land that is worth getting to know at the stroke of a pedal, both in its northern and southeastern mountains and in its plains full of olive trees. In addition, you cannot miss visiting the capital, with its impressive historical and artistic ensemble of Arab legacy.
We propose three representative routes of the province that run through the surroundings of the city of Córdoba, the Sierras Subbéticas on the old route of the Oil Train and a route through bandit land in Sierra Morena. Places with a lot of charm and Andalusian flavor that we nevertheless recommend you do at any time of the year other than summer, due to the high temperatures in the area.
Route through the Sierra de Córdoba
This route will discover the best trails in the Cordoba mountains, close to the provincial capital. Many of the trails are those used in the Andalucía Bike Race, such as the of the blowout that we encountered at the beginning of the route.
We visited places of interest such as the Caño farmhouse or the Elephant Fountain. The pine forests and the Mediterranean vegetation will accompany you on this route that we recommend doing in spring and autumn, due to the climate and the green of the Andalusian countryside.
A very attractive marathon-type MTB route through the heart of Andalusia, of medium difficulty. Follow the signposted route of the Subbética Greenway, in the southeast of the province. The route begins at the Guadajoz River viaduct, a spectacular iron and concrete bridge suspended over the river bed where the old Oil Train once passed.
We visit the Cordoba towns of Luque, Zuheros, Doña Mencía or Lucena, towns with a rich history, architecture and gastronomy. In addition, you cross the mountain landscapes of the Subbética Natural Park or natural reserves such as Laguna del Salobral. A route of high landscape and cultural value.
To the north of the province of Córdoba is Cardeña, a small town that has one of the ideal natural environments for cycling, such as the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro Natural Park, in the heart of the Sierra Morena.
A land that was once home to bandits and outlaws is now a beautiful mountain environment, with oak forests, pastures and grazing land for cows and sheep. In the middle of the route we cross the bed of the Yeguas River, but if you do this route in summer you will find its bed practically dry.
